The Öberg Trail, Skellefteå
The Öberg Trail is located about 10 km from central Skellefteå and passes through varied terrain around the villages of Stackgrönnan and Nyhamn.
The entire trail is just over 6 km long and can be accessed at a number of places. Along the trail there are several resting spots with wind shelter and barbecue areas.
At Öberget, which is located within the Innervik Bay nature reserve, you have the possibility to choose the degree of difficulty for your hike. The easiest trail is Trollstigen (“the Troll Trail”). Although it is a quiet place these days, a lively industrial community existed here around the turn of the last century, and the site of the Nyhamn Sawmill has once again been cleared. The rise in land elevation has changed the area during a relatively short time, and large parts of today’s trail were under water as recently as 250 years ago.
One place along the trail that is well worth seeing is Stackgrönnan’s boat museum, which has an extensive collection of wooden boats and motors from the district, in premises that previously housed a shipping company and a shipyard. We also highly recommend a visit to Café Kajutan, where you can buy one of their large and widely renowned prawn sandwiches. Both the boat museum and the café are open during the summer.
