1. The easiest route is to round Bergön on the western and northern side. Make your approach between the Stor-Bergö shallows and round Bergön’s northern point. Take course 104o towards the clubhouse. There are no underwater hazards on this route, so the navigation should not be a problem.

2. It is also possible to sail north of Kallaxön. At position 65o 30´,70N 22o 07,20E you should set course 297.5o and proceed for about 1.1M. You will now see the Kallax marina straight ahead. Set a new course 219o and continue for about 0.4M, change course to 163.5o and proceed for about 0.4M. You should now be under the power line in Aspviken. Now you should proceed on course 197o for about 0.2M and then set a new course 164o for about 0.5M. You should now be at the clubhouse. This waterway is very shallow, and the average water depth in the bay is only about 2 m at average tide. At the feldspar mine’s old loading zone there is a jetty that has been restored by the local municipality.

History

The feldspar mine on the island was in operation from 1905 to1938. The mine was the largest in Norrland, and one of the larger mines in Sweden. The feldspar was shipped to Germany and England. Despite the good quality of the feldspar, the mine was never profitable. The last boat was loaded in 1938, after which the mining operations were ceased.
These days you can take a walk through the forest from the boat club’s cabin and look at the remains of this feldspar mine.
